"External hard drive cyclic redundancy check error RAW System file" , I have a WD My Book external hard drive. When I plug it in the drive shows the letter and local drive. When I try and open it I get the format or cancel option. If I cancel I get the Cyclic Redundancy check error message. I have tried it on several computers and with different cables and same error. I tried going to Start -CMD and then doing 'chkdsk G: /f' and also 'chkdsk G: /f /r' but it tells me it can't be done because the drive is RAW. In the Disk Management it says it is healthy and all checks say it is running fine but it is showing RAW there as well and not NTFS like the other drives. I am not sure what else to try in order to get the data off the drive. The drive physically seems to be working just fine and I am running Windows 7. I am not super technical but I hate to pay hundreds of dollars to recover the data but I HAVE to have this data back.
