"Laptop Hard Drive Not Recognized Externally by PC using SATA to USB Adaptor ",laptop (Sony Vaio T Series Notebook) started showing an error (Blue screen) upon startup which said: "Your PC needs to be repaired" "A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed" "Error code 0xc0000185" "You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation Media. If you don't have an installation media like a disk or USB device contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer" I tried to get around this issue by using the restore option but it wouldn't work. I just kept getting the same blue screen error. The laptop doesn't have a disk drive nor was I provided with a USB device with installation media. Not only that, but I'm currently living overseas and don't have access to the manufacturer (Sony) or a reliable tech. I read somewhere that I needed to format the laptop to fix the error but that before doing so I should first copy the files in the drive to another computer to avoid losing them, so I figured the solution would be to remove the hard drive from the laptop and copy the files to another PC using a SATA to USB cable. I purchased the SATA to USB adaptor which worked perfectly with an older hard drive I have, but when I connected my wife’s hard drive I got the following message: "You Need to Format the Disk Before You Can Use It" (or something to that extent) and couldn't access the files so I clicked "Cancel" to avoid losing the files and tried to "Eject” the drive “Safely" but it wouldn't eject. I waited a while and nothing happened so I tried shutting the computer down to see if that helped but the computer got stuck on the "Shutting Down" screen. It wouldn't shut down and after several minutes of waiting I figured the drive was impeding it from doing so, so I unplugged the drive from the USB port and the PC was able to shut down.
