"Nvida GTX 675m BSOD nvlddmkm.sys",I successfully attempted to dual boot Ubuntu with my windows 7 machine (I am a former computer engineering major who left school early to pursue professional baseball and wanted to dabble in the linux world) and had no real issues initially. A couple weeks in while my girlfriend was using microsoft word on the windows partition the system crashed. I still had access to Ubuntu but windows would get past the load screen and then sit on a black screen with a movable cursor; nothing else would work. Since I could still use the Ubuntu partition i was able make a bootable windows 7 flash drive (which i have since lost) and reinstall windows. MSI does have a recovery partition but I removed that to dual boot linux, I did however back up the recovery partition files to an external hard drive in case i needed it later. That said, i re-partitioned a part of the drive to have the BIOS_RVY riles on it but was unable to recover using the traditional recovery options set forth by msi and so I used the flash drive. In doing this i lost access to linux and there doesn't seem to be a partition with it on it anymore although there is a rather large unused partition (before my C: drive i believe). Regardless, i cant get in to ubuntu, i assume this is because the windows install had overwritten the boot files for ubuntu but my technical knowledge is somewhat limited. IT may be important to note that i had access to my old Windows files through a folder called windows.old; I promptly backed this up to a flash drive and deleted it. My files on my D: partition were unaffected. Sometime after downloading and installing all the drivers from msi for the machine I began playing games again, particularly Skyrim and Total War Atilla where i experienced the BSOD error. My initial thought is that I screwed up when installing the drivers and sought to remedy the problem by reinstalling the graphics drivers clean. When this failed i remembered the bios_rvy partition and sought to make this bootable. I succeeded in this and ran the recovery which installed my MSI machine back to its factory settings which was perfect and i assumed it would solve the problem. i proceeded to update my drivers and It did not solve the issue; which lead me to seek help here. I don't use forums often, maybe a handful of times in my entire internet life, so i appologize if this post is too long and filled with unnecessary information. i prefer to try and seek the answers on my own but i fear this may be beyond my technical knowhow and i also fear it may be a hardware issue. Things to note, this only occurs when playing video games and it isnt a problem that ever occured before re-installing windows. Could this be caused by an improper partition? Maybe there's a part of Ubuntu still mixed in with the windows partition? This seems unlikely as ubuntu was on its own partition but since I know longer have access to anything on that partition it seems plausible that, that may be an issue. I ran the furmark gpu dump test and it failed at around 70 degrees celsius though i suspect that overheating is not the issue This leads me to believe the issue is entirely with the gpu or its drivers. Not sure how to open the .dmp files in a readable language, i have BlueScreenView but cant find a viable way to post the results. I will be happy to get you that information if needed if someone can point me in the right direction as to how.
