"Hard Drive is Recognized but not Accesabile to Recover Files", I attempted to search the forums and google for answers but was unsuccessful in finding information regarding my particular situation. The OS (Windows 8) became corrupted on my laptop (C:) hard drive (Dell). I purchased a new HD and installed the same copy of windows on the same laptop. Everything works fine now. I am attempting to access the data from the HD with the corrupted OS on the same laptop by plugging it in via USB and pulling the files I want. However the drive never shows up Windows Explorer/My Computer for me to access and pull the files. Normally when a HD goes bad, I just plug it in via USB, take the files I want and forget about recovering the HD. I have done this on several HDs. I have tried using the cables on three different laptop HDs and two desktop HDs on the current laptop I am trying with now and they all work so I know it is not a problem with the cables. I have not checked if the drive is recognized in BIOS however it spins up, Windows makes the chime sound when something is plugged in to the USB port, and in Disk Mgmt it is recongized as 465 GB Healthy (GPT Protective Partition). The HD is labled as 500 GB but had a complete Windows 8 Install along with the personal files I am trying to recover. It does not show any other partitions. When I right click on the drive all options are grayed out, including "Change Drive Letter and Paths". I have attempted to plug the HD in to another Laptop (Sony) via USB but was no more or less successful. I have attempted to use data recovery software but the drive never shows up as an option to scan. I have not attempted to plug it directly in to the motherboard as I do not have a desktop at the time. Any suggestions on how I can get the drive up so I can access my files?
