" Win 8.1 Installer and DiskPart does not recognize AHCI SSD", I recently bought an Asus q501la-bsi5t19 and an Intel ssd 530 series, 240 GB. I am trying to install the OS onto the SSD to replace the HDD the laptop originally came with. However, when i connect the ssd, after removing the HDD, and plug in the usb loader for windows 8.1, it does not see the drive at all. It recognizes it in the BIOS, but the windows installer does not see it at all. The laptop does not have a CD/DVD drive, so the installation needs to be done through a USB stick. The BIOS is only set at AHCI, there is no other choice. Attempted fixes: Spent several hours and so far have done the following: 1. Created a new volume on the SSD as a slave drive to my computer. Once as a MBR and once as a GPT type drive, and each time with and without a volume. Both version do not get recognized by the installer. 2. Also ran command prompt in the installer to see if the disk was locatable, could not find it, diskpart would only show the usb as the only disk. 3. Tried to install Intel AHCI drivers, however it does seem to install, but then it still won't recognize the drive through the installer or diskpart. In addition, it will not recognize the SSD in the BIOS afterwards until I do a shut down and start it up again. 4. Tried fiddling with some of the bios settings, resulted in SSD not recognized in BIOS and windows. 5. Tried to use the ASUS Backtrack tool, essentially restoring a system copy onto the SSD, but it will error out once it tries to connect to the SSD. 6. Tried to use a bootloader with clonzilla on it to see if I can access it, however, it only sees the USB stick that its on and not the drive. Even if I load it directly onto the ram and unplug the USB, it will not see any drives.
